How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me
It's like a book elegantly bound, but in a language you can't read just yet
You got to spend some time, love, you got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love, I will possess your heart
If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one,

But something in our minds will always stay,
Hair: He has amazing hair, if he does say so himself. Which he does, quite a bit more often than necessary. It's a nice jet black color that always sticks up and always would, even if he tried to flatten it.
Eyes: He has hazel eyes -- most of the time. They change color depending on his mood.
Build: Well, since he likes to spend as much time as possible on a broom or running around with the other Marauders causing mischief, it seems natural that he would be slim. Of course, he also loves eating, so having a fast metabolism and running from Filch all over the school helps him keep his weight down. With all the time he spends working his team out on the field, he's also been rewarded with some pretty nice looking muscles for his effort. He is also quite a bit taller than most his age, standing at six feet, three inches. He doesn't mind it as he insists tallness makes for a great Quidditch player since it "makes it easier to do flips and sharp turns."
Distinguishing features: Well, James is a pretty attractive guy in general, even if he does have glasses. He's tall - not crazy tall, but on the taller side of the population - so that makes him pretty noticable.
Face claim: adam brody
Overall appearance: Everyone knows who James Potter is. It's just the way things are. With his messy-but-attractive hair and winning smile, it's almost hard not to like him judging by appearance.
His hair has that whole I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-I-didn't-care-enough-to-brush-it kind of deal going on, but he prefers it be called Elegantly Windswept, As If I Have Just Dismounted My Broom. Whatever it is called, that doesn't change that it is jet black and messy, sticking up at odd angles all over the place that he somehow manages to make look good. He will also be forever running a hand through it to assure himself it is properly messy. There is an art to making his hair look so delightfully messy; an art which he has mastered.
His eyes speak for themselves; in a way they say what words can't. When he is content, after dinner for instance, they'll be that normal light brown color. When he is excited, like during a Quidditch game or sparkling with laughter, they'll change to a lively green with brown flecks. If he's sad or angry, after losing a Quidditch game or being rejected by Lily Evans for example, they'll be a deeper, more emotional brown. If you know him well enough, you can tell his mood by his eyes. He wears glasses because, well, he would be blind as an old bat without them. They don't make him look like a nerd, which is a pretty good thing. The last thing James would ever want to be is a nerd. Fortunately for him, he can pull off the glasses and still look pretty d**n attractive.
His lips, while slightly chapped from being out in all kinds of weather to practice his sport of choice, are almost always grinning or bearing a mischievous smile. His cheekbones are defined well but not in a way that makes them look too sharp. He has a permanent saunter to his walk, shouting confidence with every step. Over all, James' favorite feature about himself is his hair, because it's just so darn amazing, but the first thing you noticed about him would probably be his eyes or that messy black stuff up on top.
His clothing style is fairly simple. During Hogwarts classes, students are stuck with those annoying uniforms, but of course James has found ways to make it more suitable for what he likes. He often wars his tie loosened and shirt untucked. When he has the ability to wear what he wants, he wears comfortable but still fashionable and non-constricting clothes. He tends to lean toward jeans or black pants and whatever shirt he pulls out of his trunk, whether it's a nice black button up or a plain white tee. Nevertheless, he is always sure he looks good and is always wearing clothes suitable for escaping from Filch and Mrs. Norris.

Amortentia:
Patronus: His patronus is a stag. A patronus reflects the person you are, and while James can seem proud and hold his head high and seem rather stupid at times, he still has common sense and his wits about him. There are a variety of memories he uses. When he met the Marauders; when he saw a certain redhead the first time; remembering the moment he first actually fully transformed into his stag animagus.
Animagus: James, along with his best friend Sirius and Peter, became Animaguses in their fifth year to help support and keep safe Remus during his monthly transformations. It is also rather helpful in pulling off pranks - the outside ones, of course. A stag, dog, and rat running around the castle would probably raise more suspicion than the friends do already when they're seen together.
Boggart: Himself with no friends. He's arrogant and popular. You don't get that way by having no friends or nobody who likes you. In James' form, it's him, standing to the side alone (like Snivellus, he always thinks) while Remus, Sirius, and Peter have all the friends and popularity.
Mirror of Erised: He would see himself and Lily. They would be touching - actually touching - and she would willingly let him be close to her instead of hexing him or threatening him or insulting him. The other Marauders would be there too, smiling and laughing.
Worst Memory: No, as many think it doesn't have to do with a certain redhead. She has indeed given him a few of his not-so-favored ones, but none so horrible as this.
James always hated spiders. Creepy, crawly things that were sneaky and shudder causing. One of his parents' friends had a son older than him, who got some kind of pleasure out of teasing young James. Crayford, for that was the tortured soul's name, found out about James' arachnophobia and made up a series of clever ways to terrify James. The old spider-in-your-pb&j. The classic spider-dropped-on-your-head. The creepy spider-in-your-bed. Many more. This really never helped James' view on spiders; it worsened it remarkably.
Best Memory: James has had a pleasured and happy life, and he treasures memories, but the is one special one that is the one thing that will always come to him.
The day he met the Marauders. Like so many others, he was scared and nervous, yet excited at the thought of finally going to the famed Hogwarts.
Once he had said his goodbyes and his mom had pretended that she wasn't crying, he got on the train. Most everywhere was full, until he happened in one compartment with just two boys appearing to be about his age in it. One was rather rotund, the other a bit shabby looking and reading a book. Reading, of all things. James, already a bit arrogant, even then, announced he was sitting and sat next to the reading boy. A few minutes later, another boy joined them. He and James hit it off first, when James 'accidentally' shot a few sparks his way, eventually leading all four boys into creating a bond that couldn't be broken.

Overall Personality: James Potter is quite the character. He's the type of guy that most want to be friends with, but only a select few are, or even have the option, to get close to him. He is fiercely loyal to his friends; it could even be considered a fault at times. He would, literally, go to the ends of the earth to help them, even going so far as to break laws to help one friend.
James is very independent, bold, and confident. He hates getting help from anyone. Although he might make an exception for Lily Evans, who is his biggest downfall when it comes to romance. You would think someone like him would have no issues getting a girl, but the object of his affections has always disliked him, to say the least. Ever since he's realized that it's coming up on his last year to prove to her he's worth it, he's started acting a bit more mature, much to Sirius' annoyance.
Still, James can be very sarcastic by nature and enjoys toying around with words. Not big words, just speaking in long sentences occasionally. These sentences are usually run-ons, and half the time make no sense, but they're interesting nonetheless.
His sense of humor is questionable, and because he doesn't think before speaking often that humor will get him into trouble, especially in classes.
He has a quick mind, one that is good on improvising pranks at a moment's notice or coming up with itsy bitsy lies to feed to the Hogwarts staff to try to get out of trouble. Depending on the teacher, these little white lies have various outcomes.
While he talks, he punctuates everything with his hands or facial gestures to make sure he gets his point across. One of his favorite hand gestures of telling someone they're number one with that universal signal everybody knows. He also rolls his eyes when he thinks you've said something or are being stupid or unreasonable.
He rarely gets nervous, with the exception of when he is around Lily Evans, in which he is nervous for every second he's close to her. He tends to say rather stupid things, ramble on and on, or stutter. He has taken to saying short sentences around her so he won't make a complete fool of himself, but it doesn't usually work.
In past years, James used to be an exceptionally cruel character. He has toned it down a bit because Lily didn't like him hexing random first years because it was amusing, and now saves all his hexes for a certain Severus Snape.
The biggest thing about James Potter (and the one he has changed the most for Lily) is his pride, more commonly referred to as arrogance. While not entirely justified in being as full of himself as he was and still is to some point, he does have a reason, coming from a wealthy pureblood family, being one of the two resident ladies' choices of Hogwarts, and holding the position of Quidditch captain for four years in a row.
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could,
Family: James was born into a rich older pureblood wizarding couple - though his family was never one for the "We're purebloods so we are automatically better," stuff.
Place of birth: James was born in the extremely high-class part of Godric's Hollow, one of the only full wizarding communities around. He and his parents have lived there since he was brought into this world.
Overall History: Lyla and Charles Potter were blessed with a bouncing baby boy on the 27th day of March in 1960. They were older than most other parents with a new born baby and were blessed with him long after they had given up hope of continuing that particular branch of the Potter bloodline on. He grew up in the normal rich-wizarding-parents type of setting. Because they had him later than most parents had children, they spoiled their little boy because he was a special gift for them that had come when they thought it was too late. They never had another child, leaving James with all of his parents' attention and affections as he grew, naturally making him very demanding.
James had a talent for school, as would be shown in his eleventh year when he went to Hogwarts. He excelled at everything he tried at, Transfiguration being his best and favorite subject. He was good enough that he was able to lead his two friends into being animaguses with him for another friend. Along with the arrogance also came fierce loyalty for those close to him.
He was quite the mischievous boy at Hogwarts, always up to trouble with Sirius Black and on occasion Peter Pettigrew and on occasions of occasions Remus Lupin. Being good-looking, rich, and talented at both school and Quidditch, he soared right into popularity, causing admiration from some and intense jealousy from others. Along with the popularity came enemies. Severus Snape was James' least favorite person from point one, and the feeling was reciprocated. James and Severus never turned down a chance to get back at each other. It was James' goal in life to make Severus' life a living hell. It was James who came up with the nickname Snivellus. Although James would never admit it, before Snape ruined things with Lily, he was always a bit jealous of the relationship Severus had with her.
He had a natural talent for Quidditch and was on the team as a Chaser his third year. He was captain forth.
Somewhere around the end of first year he started looking at Lily Evans a lot, wondering what was so different about her. In second year, he realized it was a little schoolboy's crush. This crush grew bigger and bigger, from just liking to liking a lot to "I love you"s to obsession.

It was really so terribly frustrating that she wasn't into him. Not the way he was for her, that's for sure. He had an obsession with her, one that could never be satisfied by just watching her walk down the halls or furiously finish the Potions essay that's not due until the next week. He has to talk to her, to say something. To try, yet again, to make her feel something she doesn't. It has never occurred to him that maybe he is doing something wrong, that he is trying too hard and that if he wanted the time of day from her, he had to be at least a little more tolerable than he was at the moment.
Girls are sneaky creatures by nature, winning them the calmer and nicer title. Girls can be just as mean as boys, but they're quiet about it. It will be something subtle, like pretending to be this girl's friend but then going and spreading rumors about the girl behind her back. Guys will come right out and tell you they don't like you. They cut the drama. He thinks girls are drama addicted, that they need a certain amount of drama to keep them going.
Like Lily. She doesn't just say no anymore, she slaps him and says something caustic, like "I'd rather date the Giant Squid." He really hopes that is an exaggeration. His ego and common sense won't allow him to think that a Giant Squid, an inhuman creature (not that there is anything wrong with inhuman creatures, humans just wouldn't have pretty looking babies with them) is actually preferable to his good looks, charming personality, and winning smile. All are good adjectives, but Lily doesn't seem to believe them.
Sirius has gotten sick and tired of his infatuation long ago. Sirius just doesn't get why James wants one girl so much when he could have almost anyone else in the school. James doesn't get it either, he just knows that there's something special about Lily, from her gorgeous looks to her angering yet wonderful personality. He doesn't even try anymore to satisfy himself with other girls, instead he'll go on a date with them to try to make a certain someone jealous. It's a mystery as to why she would be jealous now if she wasn't the other million times he tried this. She has made it clear that if he ever wants a chance with her, he's got to change. James has just never picked up on it, no matter how many times Remus has told him so.
This time was worse than usual because she had a boyfriend. What's-his-face (James had forgotten already. Or maybe he just didn't want to remember) hadn't even had to try, he just pranced right on up to Lily and asked her on a date and she said the magic word -- no, not "please" -- and he had his date. And then his girlfriend. His girlfriend who belonged to someone else. Lily was trying to keep it quiet, too. He wasn't even supposed to know, he was sure. He had accidentally listened to one of her conversations with her friends when they were talking about the prat. It was all very irritating.
He was sure his time would come. People didn't stay together forever unless their names were going to be Lily and James Potter or those old people who had been together for about a billion years and were probably ready to go on for a few more. James just couldn't imagine that kind of love, but he was sure he could experience that with Lily -- if only she would let him show her he wasn't as bad as she made him out to be.
This is the precise reason he hates History of Magic. While Binns drones on and on about some goblin war that happened three hundred years ago, it leaves him with too much time to think. Usually, he would drift off, staring at the window until he was flying or out enjoying the fall air, where the trees' leaves are changing to spectacular fiery red and oranges and browns. Not this time.
While Binns is rambling about how this goblin did this because one stole his turkey dinner James is thinking. About Lily and what's-his-face. They don't even look right together! Lily is so much taller than the bloke, where did she get it in her that they matched?
Now Binns is elaborating on another story about how a war was started between wizards and goblins because the goblins stole some princess or something and some bloke loved her and wanted her back. It all sounds annoying similar to James, and he just realizes now that what's-his-face looks a lot like a goblin, stretching his features a bit. This whole story that sounds like one of those Muggle "Fairy Tales", James thinks, could have been suppressed into one sentence instead of a twenty-minute-long lecture about how it is morally wrong to steal the objects of other's affections. He hopes what's-his-face is listening. It would be a good lesson for him.
The bell rings, finally, and Binns doesn't get to finish his tale in the way the nutty ghost would have preferred. He ends it with a tragic but brief ending of the man getting his beloved back but dying in the process because the goblin didn't want to let her go. At least he took the goblin down with him, James thinks. He hopes this will not be the way he and Lily end up -- why save her if he can't enjoy her? -- but it's not important anymore because it's lunch time. As James joins the other Marauders he becomes aware he is very hungry, and can't want to enjoy a nice 'sammidge'.
